Biography

I have been practicing adult and pediatric upper extremity orthopaedic surgery for 20+ years, at University of California San Francisco prior to coming to Yale as the Chair in 2019.  During my fellowship training I spent additional time at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, TX learning to care for hand and upper extremity problems in children. My practice is about half adult and half pediatric. This gives me a unique understanding of the issues that children may have as they get older with whatever problem or condition that they have. Although I see all conditions and problems in the hand, elbow and upper extremity, I have built my practice around becoming an expert on the elbow. I planned and performed the first and only elbow to elbow transplant for a complex elbow problem. My research interests are in developing novel ways of treating problems in a more personalized way through the use of 3D planning and technology that allows better understanding of post-traumatic and congenital deformities. In addition, I founded a non-profit organization organization, The Perry Initiative, to improve diversity in engineering and orthopaedic surgery. I received the Jefferson Award for Community Service and the Exceptional Physician Award from my peers.
