James S. Waldron, MD

Dr. James Waldron is an attending neurosurgeon at NeuroTexas, PLLC.. He focuses on the treatment of complex disorders of the blood vessels of the brain and spine; including brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), dural arteriovenous fistulae (dAVF), cavernous malformations, ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, and atherosclerotic disease of the carotid arteries and intracranial vasculature. He is trained in both open surgical and endovascular treatments allowing him to provide the full range of care to patients with these challenging problems. Dr. Waldron also has broad experience in the treatment of tumors of the brain and spine using advanced neurophysiological mapping and skullbase techniques. He uses radiosurgery as a primary and adjunctive treatment for tumors, AVMs, and dAVFs. In addition, Dr. Waldron maintains a significant practice focused on disorders of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine.

Dr. Waldron joined NeuroTexas after advanced fellowship training in endovascular neurosurgery/ interventional neuroradiology at Stanford University. He completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of California, San Francisco where he trained in open cerebrovascular techniques with Dr. Michael Lawton, M.D. During residency Dr. Waldron was honored with both the Preuss Award and the Integra Foundation Award for brain tumor research. Dr. Waldron has also completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He graduated from the University of Texas, Southwestern School of Medicine, attended Rice University, and grew up in San Antonio, TX.

Dr. Waldron remains committed to the advancement of neuroscience research and is an active participant in the NeuroTexas Institute Research Program. He has previously pursued National Institutes of Health funded research work on brain tumors and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the laboratory of Andrew Parsa, M.D., Ph.D., at the University of California, San Francisco.
