Mitchell D. Schnall, MD, PhD, reports on the Revolution CT scanner recently introduced in the emergency room at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for the Department of Radiology. The Revolution CT scanner uses narrow beams of radiation to create “slices” of the targeted organ that are then reassembled into high resolution, three-­dimensional images that can be viewed from any perspective. Among its many applications, the scanner can be used to quickly distinguish a genuine heart attack from the variety of other events that contribute to emergent chest pain.
