MUSC Health neurosurgeon Istvan Takacs, M.D., co-director of the Gamma Knife Center, describes how deep brain stimulation (DBS) works, the advantages of performing it awake and how it can dramatically affect the quality of life of patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia.
