Bolstering Damaged Rotator Cuff Through Bioinductive Tissue Grafting

Shane Woolf, M.D., an orthopaedic sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction surgeon at MUSC, discusses a new twist on a procedure to treat rotator cuff disease with partial-thickness tearing and degenerative tendinopathy. By grafting highly purified bovine Achilles tendon tissue to the native rotator cuff tissue using a new delivery and fixation system, physicians can create a scaffold for healing and ultimately thicken and strengthen the diseased rotator cuff.
