Microvascular facial and reconstructive surgeon Shaun Desai conducted a complex two-stage reconstruction for a war veteran who had experienced a blast injury and 10 subsequent surgeries over a 25 year period. First, Desai removed old hardware and infection, then used 3D modeling and Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP) to assist in the reconstruction of the midface using a fibular free flap, allowing for osseo-integrated dental implants to be placed afterward.
