Surgeons at Penn Medicine are incorporating the latest technology, research and integrated care to make patients whole again. Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP) is a key component of reconstructive surgery employed by specialists in the Departments of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Penn Medicine. Using high-resolution CAT scans, Penn surgeons are able to visualize the surgical field in order to prepare preoperative strategies for surgery. Advanced 3D modeling is then performed to fabricate custom printed prosthetics for implantation during surgical reconstruction. The result is increased precision, shorter and safer surgeries, less time under anesthesia and enhanced outcomes.
