Emerging Therapies in Achalasia: The Case for POEM

In this presentation, Gregory G. Ginsberg, MD, describes Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy, or POEM, and narrates a video of the procedure. POEM was developed as a treatment for achalasia, a motility disorder in which  the esophageal sphincter fails to open normally to permit the passage of food. Dr. Ginsberg is the Director of Endoscopic Services at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and introduced the procedure at Penn Medicine.
